The sessions
What you cover across the two days
- 01
Managing vs Leading: Understanding the Difference and When to Do Both
We begin with the fundamental concepts of leadership and management, so you gain a clear understanding of the difference between them and can do both deliberately. We also cover optimising workflows and getting organised as an office manager, including techniques for structuring your days, weeks and months.
What you will be able to do
- Intentionally block your schedule and optimise your time management
- Elevate your leadership and management capabilities in the office
- 02
Human Resources Essentials 101
A must-attend for every office manager, whether or not you are directly responsible for HR. We cover the basics of HR and why it matters for a legally compliant workplace, the documentation you are required to hold, and an onboarding paperwork package with the essential documents for new hires.
What you will be able to do
- Identify the essential documents required for compliance
- Organise and manage documentation, on paper or digitally
- Outline the key elements of onboarding paperwork for new hires
- 03
Identifying Key Metrics: The Whys, Whats and Huhs
An interactive session on Key Performance Indicators and the terminology dental teams meet constantly. Includes a detailed case study using Dental Intelligence showing how different measures influence one another and contribute to the practice goals.
What you will be able to do
- Describe what KPIs actually are
- Identify the main KPIs and what each one affects in the business
- Decide what you want to track, and how to track it
- 04
Lead Effective Team Meetings
Team meetings are where a practice either aligns or quietly drifts. This session covers running a meeting people want to attend: the agenda, the cadence, who owns what afterwards, and how to keep decisions from evaporating between sessions. Combined with Level 2 attendees.
What you will be able to do
- Structure a meeting agenda that produces decisions
- Assign and track ownership after the meeting ends
- 05
Pearls & Impediments: Peer-to-Peer Learning
The session attendees consistently rate highest. Managers bring the thing that is working brilliantly and the thing that is stuck, and the room works on both. It is the part of the course where you find out that the problem you thought was yours alone is in every practice in the room.
What you will be able to do
- Share and adapt working solutions from other practices
- Leave with a specific next action on a current obstacle
